Almodovar’s “Las Mujeres de Madrid”
An exhibition with photos from Almodaovar´s movies telling us about their locations in Madrid, rather than so much about the women.
The whole thing left me feeling cold.
I was excited to go; Almodovar is edgy and I wanted to see what he had to say about “Las Mujeres de Madrid” but I really did not get any message, or even a clue here.
I do not understand what the point of an exhibition showcasing his movies in photographic forms and a couple of his locations in Madrid was in this case.
The cut photos from the films looked drab and uninspiring to me. I guess some people might want to visit the few places that are featured.
I will have to give this a second chance. I will read the brochure and get a tour.; maybe a guide can explain what is going on.
I spent all of 10 minutes there as I was just so let down and disappointed by what looked like a shambles to me.
Having left, I was thinking back on the slightly embarrassed faces of some of the Madrileños who would have been in their prime during La Movida. I was embarrassed for them.
As I sit writing here in a café terrace, I am struck by the real-life vision of a slightly older woman sitting at another terrace table alone, her colourful flowery orange hat blowing backwards in the breeze. This image might have been just the perfect original trope for the exhibition I had just seen, unlike the rehashed mishmash I had arguably just witnessed.
